KI Code Community

The KI Code Community is a unique environment where developers can upload their code and get compensated for their efforts based upon downloads from other users.  As much as we believe in Open Source, we also realize that giving away code completely free ends up in lost income for developers.  We think that the payment of developers, even if it is not a huge amount, is necessary to ensure code still has value in the long run.  We believe that totally free code sets a dangerous precedent.  We do not see other labor markets/professions giving away a significant amount of work for free. We also believe that inclusion in a community - even one provided at nominal amounts will be able to support or at least supplement developers incomes.  In the end we like to think that a community approach to software, where their is a nominal fee involved, is better for our industry and our careers.

How it works (Developers)

1.     Developers register on Kennedy Innovations.

2.     Click on the Code Community (Under the Community Menu Option).

3.     Click Submit a File and upload the file you wish to share (fill in as much information as possible about your file, as the more you fill in the more likely people will be to download)

How it works (Downloaders)

1.     Downloaders must Register to Kennedy Innovation.

2.     They subscribe to the ability to download files ($15 for 3 months).

3.      They can download unlimited files from the KI Code Community.

How Developers get paid

At the end of every month we calculate the total amount of money raised by the code community.  We tabulate the number of unique user downloads (if a single user downloads the same file twice or more it still only counts as one unique download) there were per piece of code across the community and we then divide the money among the developers based on the number of downloads.  Once a developer has earned $60 or more we send them a check or send money to them via PayPal.

*NOTE: Developers do not have to subscribe to upload documents and accumulate money using the code community, however, developers must join the community to receive a check.  For more information please see the KI Terms and Conditions.
